As I sit here and think about the significance of Christmas and what it means to my household I can’t help but add to my thoughts, just where Jesus was on Christmas Eve Eve? I know that December 25th is just the date we celebrate Jesus’ birth but that don’t change the fact that our Savoir was born to take away our sins and open a door to eternity for all mankind.
So where was our Savoir on Christmas Eve Eve? Well the Bible tells us in Luke 2:1 that a decree was order by Caesar Augustus that all should be registered in his own town. So Joseph and his wife Mary (Jesus’ mom and step dad) started on a 111 Km trip to Bethlehem from Nazareth that will be around 80 miles. If you figure around 20 miles a day by foot this will be a four day trip. Joseph must have been pretty convincing to talk Mary at 8 months or so pregnant to travel on foot for four days.
We don’t know for sure but on Christmas Eve Eve this might have put the trio at the half way mark which would be somewhere in Samaria. As I close my eyes I can imagine the three resting for the night bundled up together keeping each other warm in front of the fire talking about their soon to come little bundle of awesomeness Jesus. I can hear them saying, “Our Jesus is coming soon and He will be called Most High.”
Luke 1:31-33, tells us “And the angel Gabriel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
So today I would expect all of us to be doing the same as Joseph and Mary and begin to engage into a conversation with our loved ones about the return of our Lord Jesus Christ the “Most High.” We know that Jesus was born and that He walked this earth to bring the Gospel message and to be crucified for the forgiveness of our sins and that He would rise on the third day, ascended into Heaven and one day soon will return.
“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.” 1 Thessalonians 4:14
Jesus will return and will return soon; this should be on the forefront of our thoughts during this Holiday season and every season to come. He will come and I could not be any more anxious. He is the reason for the season and His return is the best reason I could think of.
